Job Description
The Manufacturing Engineer will design, implement, and optimize manufacturing processes. Their primary goal is to ensure that the production of automotive parts is efficient, cost-effective, and of high quality.
Job Responsibilities
- Design and Implementation : Develop, design, and implement manufacturing processes for new products or components. This includes selecting appropriate tools, machinery, and technology.
- Optimization : Continuously analyze and improve existing manufacturing processes to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and improve product quality.
- Implementation : Apply lean manufacturing principles to streamline production processes, eliminate inefficiencies, and enhance productivity.
- New Product Introduction (NPI) : Manage the introduction of new products into the manufacturing process, including planning, coordinating resources, and overseeing timelines.
- Equipment Installation : Oversee the installation and commissioning of new machinery and equipment, ensuring it meets production requirements and safety standards.
- Team Coordination : Work closely with design engineers, production teams, quality control, and supply chain departments to ensure smooth project execution and process integration.
- Vendor Management : Collaborate with suppliers and vendors to ensure that materials, tools, and equipment meet the required specifications and quality standards.Work with vendor timelines for equipment build through regular meetings, both remote and onsite. Validation at supplier (FAT) & validation at manufacturing location (SAT) to meet APQP requirements. Understand capabilities, and limitations of each vendor in order to guide best in class equipment builds by commodity.
- Compliance : Ensure that manufacturing processes comply with industry standards, company quality guidelines, and customer requirements.
- Problem-Solving : Identify and troubleshoot production issues related to quality. Implement corrective actions and preventive measures to address any quality concerns.
- Process Validation : Oversee the validation of new processes and equipment to ensure they meet performance criteria. This may involve conducting tests, analyzing data, and making adjustments as needed.
- Root Cause Analysis : Perform root cause analysis on defects or production failures and implement solutions to prevent recurrence.
- Efficiency Improvements : Identify opportunities to reduce manufacturing costs without compromising quality, such as through material optimization, process automation, or energy conservation.
- Budget Management : Monitor project budgets and manage costs effectively, ensuring that projects are completed within financial constraints. Assists with estimate of capital/tooling cost for new customer quotes specific to equipment & automation.
- Automation and Robotics : Lead the integration of advanced manufacturing technologies, such as automation, robotics, and Industry 4.0 solutions, to enhance production efficiency. Development of Automation opportunities to reduce labor.
- Tooling and Equipment : Oversee the design and selection of tooling, fixtures, and equipment to support efficient production processes.
- Innovation : Stay updated with the latest manufacturing technologies and methodologies. Propose and implement innovative solutions to enhance production capabilities.
- Adherence : Ensure that all manufacturing processes comply with relevant safety regulations, environmental standards, and industry codes
- Documentation : Maintain accurate records of process changes, equipment specifications, and safety protocols
- Safety Standards : Promote and enforce safety standards in the manufacturing environment. Conduct safety audits and ensure that all equipment and processes meet safety requirements.
- Data Analysis : Analyze production data to monitor process performance, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions to optimize operations.
- Supplier Quality : Work with suppliers to ensure that incoming materials meet quality specifications and that any issues are promptly addressed.
- Vendor Selection : Participate in the selection of suppliers and vendors, ensuring they align with the company’s quality and cost objectives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in either Industrial or Mechanical Engineering
- Three to five, or more, years of plastic processing experience
- Automotive industry experience preferred
- Injection molding experience preferred
- At least 1 - 2 years' of engineering experience
- Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, Kanban and 5S
